Matt Darey

Matt Darey first appeared on the international music scene soon after graduating as a bachelor of arts in the UK.

Right after graduating he was snapped up by Seymour Stein of Sire records NYC, the man who signed Madonna and various other iconic players in the music industry. Matt soon became a pioneer of new genres of electronic dance music in 1994 with tracks like “Red Skin” https://soundcloud.com/mattdarey/red & “Point Zero” https://soundcloud.com/mattdarey/zero .

Through the 90’s whilst developing his sound on the underground Matt was also writing, producing and remixing tracks that were crossing over from the club into the mainstream charts. He wrote and produced or remixed numerous hits including top ten hits like “Beautiful” and other chart hits such as “Liberation” , “Game Master”, “From Russia With Love”. As one of the first producers to develop the “Trance” sound from 1994 to 2000, Matt remixed some of the iconic tracks of that era which crossed over into the mainstream including “Till I come” by ATB, Binary Finary’s 1998, as well as chart toppers such as Gabriel’s “Rise” & Moloko’s “Time is now”.

Matt’s music went on to influence many artists who drive the EDM scene today including Armin Van Burren who said Matt’s “Li Kwan – Point Zero” was one of the key tracks that got him into trance music. Others like Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto and Above and Beyond all influenced at some stage of their careers by Matt’s innovative productions or indeed his personal guidance. Matt went on to mix many compilations including the best selling Euphoria series with over 3 million albums sold in the UK and many others including the Nocturnal series on Koch records USA and Black Hole in the Netherlands.

Darey-Chair-Credit-Stian Roenning After a 3 year break from the music industry Matt returned in 2004 starting his international “Nocturnal” radio show which grew from being broadcast on just a handful of FM radio stations to 150 cities around the world within a few years of its conception. He continued to release tracks of many genres from the melodic progressive sounds of “Always” to the experimental fusion sounds of his Rocktronica project “Urban Astronauts” in 2007 with tracks like:“No Submission” https://soundcloud.com/mattdarey/submission & “Animal” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLW8Fc2dvv8

On the flip side of Matt’s musical personality, still enjoying the production progressive melodic club based music, he released a 17 track artists album titled “Blossom & Decay” featuring tracks like “See The Sun” https://soundcloud.com/mattdarey/sets/blossom. Also featuring the singles “Hold Your Breath” http://youtu.be/z3hltA4a9BA & “Follow You” http://youtu.be/EU7l5daJheU Also dipping his toes back in the remix waters with his avant-garde remix of US rock band 30 Seconds to Mars https://soundcloud.com/mattdarey/30secs

In recent years Matt’s Nocturnal radio show evolved into a showcase for the cutting edge of the deeper side of electronic music being one of the first to show case deep house artists early on in their careers such as Gui Boratto, Maja Jane Coles, Huxley & Hot Since 82.

A refreshing outlook on music that is very much appreciated by his fans. To launch his new sound, Matt has has a new imprint for 2015 “Nocturnal Nouveau” associated with the deeper melodic grooves of his nocturnal radio show.
