Happy Birthday Gary Lewis!

On this day in 1946, Gary Lewis was born.

The son of comedian Jerry fronted this outfit, which sustained a run of chart hits due in no small part to the talents of Leon Russell (who wrote, co-wrote or played on many of their recordings, under the direction of producer Snuff Garrett).

Lewis originally drummed and sang (at least live) before being moved upfront on guitar. This was his lead-off hit: “This Diamond Ring” hit #1 in February 1965.

I know – you really weren’t clamoring for a Gary and Jerry Lewis duet on a Beatles song, right? Well – here it is anyway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcu9KeeZ0ww
